The one hundred and fiftieth Anniversary of Lincoln’s Next Inaugural: A Meditation on the Will of God

My excellent good friend Daniel Dreisbach (Ph.D., Oxford), a professor at American College, has prepared a wonderful piece on the 15oth anniversary of what he rightly phone calls “among the most eloquent of all presidential utterances.”   

Lincoln’s remarkable, seven hundred-term speech is a meditation on God’s will throughout a time of countrywide disaster and enormous bloodshed, the Civil War.  It also demonstrates the sixteenth President’s internalization of the Phrase of God and how it affected his comprehending of this great American trial.
